Proposal Title: INFLEXION, 03/15/2009, Sculpture

Proposal Synopsis: Inflexion or point of inflection is a point on the curve in which the curvature changes sign. The monument is like erosion or the wind. It has come from within the ground and its grain like directions have been pushed by external forces. Each mound is individual in nature but a continuous holistic field condition is read as they follow the curve that inflects. The names of those that suffered will be placed within the mounds. The wind blows and the trees lean, this monument is frozen in time of those forces that came in two directions. The monument will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will be using a CNC milling machine to create a framework. Spray on concrete will then be used to cover the framework. It will lastly be finished to a high grey polish.

Artist's Biography: architectuREdefined, Joseph Choma is a computation based researcher in New York, focused on new emerging architectural consequences by means of morphological design machines. In an effort to push the boundaries of the emerging architectural practice, his projects stem away from the architect designing by hand and instead go by the philosophy of the design machine. The design machine has various embedded scripted organism-like systems that create a constraint and a new freedom. The design machine is a relationship based computer science method, in that before one can even create a line one must make relationships between points in space.
