Proposal Title: Collateral Damage, 03/17/2008, Other

Proposal Synopsis: Collateral Damage documents civilian casualties, mainly Iraqi. Pencil silhouettes, approximately one inch each, are filled in with white pencil, many identified by name/ age. Over 17,000 figures have been drawn so far, a tiny fraction of the reality. A companion piece, Wrapped in the Flag depicts coalition troop losses, and consists of rows of small silhouetted figures (over 4000), each filled with a portion of the appropriate national flag, then labeled with the soldierâ??s name / age. Together there are now 32 scrolls 5â?? by 1â?? wide and the project is ongoing. The information come from Iraqi Body Count and Iraq Coalition Body Count, respectively.

Artist's Biography: For the last five years I have been making drawings that document tax spending. These can be seen at http://www.cynthiabroan.com/ee_porttax.html The drawings submitted are part of this project that also includes drawings of the weaponry used in Iraq, entire contents of a gov't virology lab., contents of a fire truck (many of these drawn on site.)
