Proposal Title: Roses for Our People, 11/21/2011, Sculpture
Proposal Synopsis: The national flower of Iraq is the rose. A rose (with its variety of colors) can represent many different meanings. I propose to make a sculpture (it could possibly even transform into an installation, if an allowed and appropriate space was chosen) of the Iraq flag made of origami roses. Each rose will represent a civilian life lost during "Operation Iraqi Freedom". I believe the power of roses and its unique value bring a lot of light to many issues we deal with on a daily bases: friendship, love, loss, and mourning, to name a few. The symbolism of not only Iraqa's national flower will shine through, but the country's flag, as well, which is the representation of the people who live in this country. The following video is a great example of the type of origami rose that could be used for the sculpture: http://youtu.be/zRGSGyXvL_w
Artist's Biography: I am currently attending the University of Nevada, Reno and work as a System Administrator in the College of Business. I really enjoy the field of digital media and decided to minor in it, or possibly major in it in the future. I do not have a lot of experience in the art field and wanted to expand my horizons. I currently do not have any published work but am achieving a lot through education. I hope to one day combine my skills of computers and media design in my career.
