Proposal Title: The Spirits Remain, 01/10/2008, Installation
Proposal Synopsis: This installation takes place in an existing building with a prominent display to a busy street. It is completely encased to not create a sense of claustrophobia but to put oneself in a strange place completely out of context from whence they entered. Small point lights and shattered mirror fragments will be hanging at varying intervals throughout the space to represent the many civilian lives lost in the war. The ground will be covered in post-explosion debris, a crumbling wall, a burnt car, and scorched earth where the bomb exploded. The installation will be fully interactive as there is no definite location where the viewer is told to stand. The concept is to disrupt the "normal" every-day experience of people outside the Middle East and bring awareness that these are everyday experiences for people in other parts of the world. This is combination of subtle beauty and raw destruction.
