Proposal Title: wrist memory compass reminder., 03/19/2008, Other
Proposal Synopsis: i started with a concept, not unlike the very act of praying, where everyone on the face of the earth could pay his/her tribute to the very humiliating act that we are seeing taking place all over iraq these days.
looking at archetypes of this concept's embodiment, such as astrolobe, qibla + jerusalem compass, and the very first compass ever made, i thought what we need is a very toned down, understated, and subtle apparatus of paying respect. an exact opposite of the popular belief of how a monument would be.
i took this path since i believe that the act of paying respect to the memory of what happened in the past, and by then learning of what should happen in the future, in itself is the substance of the proposal, not the apparatus, not the profane. let's not prioritize monumentality over memorability.
Artist's Biography: having an interest in artistic field since a tender age of 7, when i drew my first complete comic book, i grew up to be a practicing architect. since my 2005 graduation, i have been working as exhibition assistant, product designer, art director, architect, project manager, as well as artist with a couple of collective exhibition experience.
i'm interested to give my contribution since, being raised a moslem but suffered from act of terrorism, in its broadest sense, myself, i feel like i could have a lot of insights to offer in regard of this matter.
