Proposal Title: Black Box, 03/29/2008, Other

Proposal Synopsis: A Black Box records and stores data used in retracing the last event that leads to a tragedy. The events currently taking place in Iraq on a day to day basis are leading to a tragedy. When that tragedy reaches critical mass and explodes we'll be looking for the Black Box. This Black Box is now moving from one major city to another, making its way across the world recording and storing data, memories of everyday Iraq: the people, the lives and deaths, the events. The tragedy in Iraq is confined only in physicality but not in essence, we share its tragedy - the diminishing value of human lives and the insignificance of its existence. Our proposal for the Iraqi Memorial is the understanding that this tragedy should be shared by all of us as citizens of this world. It is a portable memorial that breaks through the constraints of place and brings Iraq, its people, their lives and tragedy to your city square. Walking into this Black Box, you teleport yourself for a few minutes into the heart of the Iraqi tragedy. You see it. You hear it. You feel it. You participate in keeping their memory alive.
